Education and Qualifications
Over several quarters, I have taken Foothill-De Anza courses in civic leadership, business, technology, and film. My sons took community college classes to graduate from college early and save on tuition. I know these colleges from the inside—as a parent and a student.
Too many students encounter friction unrelated to academics. I will listen directly to current and prospective students to identify and remove barriers. I will advocate for low-cost course materials; flexible online classes that foster community; stackable certificates that can build toward degrees; and stronger partnerships with K–12 schools and employers to expand internships, apprenticeships and workforce training.
I bring nearly ten years of public budgeting, labor negotiations, and policy oversight from service on the school board and city council, plus four years as an assistant professor at Iowa State, a Princeton Ph.D., and 25 years in Silicon Valley technology. I will use my experience to ensure bond funds are used as promised to voters.
Foothill and De Anza should serve students at every stage of life, expand pathways to lifelong learning and rewarding careers, and become trusted anchors for the communities around them.
